  How honest about yourself are you here on this forum?

  i guess i am too open.

  many times i have been slammed and get furious with the results.

  there are a few posters including some long time members and possible trolls that enrage me.

  I have nothing to hide, my life JW is an open book, it is also, ancient history.

  For the 27 years that I have been out, the trauma and pain, (inflicted on me by that destructive cult) has been pushed into the back of my mind. I never thought about it, I just moved on and pretended that it never happened.

  In January I found JWD, have started the process of digging up and dealing with the demons of my childhood.

  Been out 32 years, but dogged by depression since childhood. Found the boards about a year ago, and realised that I wasn't alone.

  being a dyed in the wool northeasterner means i have certain proclivities:.

  a love of smashmouth nfc east football and an abiding affection for underachieving baseball teamsthe ability to find woody allen films (nee' woody allen himself) exceptionally funnyan uncontrollable desire to drive 4 miles out of my way to go to the place with the better bagelsno aversion to psychotherapy/analysisi went under psychotherapy for about 8 months; not near long enough to get the kind of depth thats needed but it was still insightful and liberating in its truncated form.

  I've been seeing a therapist for several months, and I've only just finished playing silly mind-games and started to make some headway at last!

  The very same issues as a lot of people here too.

  i'm sure you have something to say but if it makes my eyes bleed i pass.. capitals - i don't know about you but i think this just looks juvenile but no worse than this.

  Shouldn't that read; "Two I hate are excessive spelling and grammatical errors........."?

  That aside, my minimal span of attention just won't let me trawl through long paragraphs. My mind tends to.......um, thingy, you know?

  What do you wish you were doing now and later?

  what i wish i was doing is sliding out of a hotel bed with a view onto the mountains or the sea and getting ready for a lazy day by the pool being served margharitas whilst i people watch and reading my book.

  i'd plan on a pizza and a salad after a vigorous swim.

  possibly retiring to my air conditioned room when it gets too hot for some fun with one of my two playmates.

  I think I'd like to be on the cusp of doing something really exciting - paragliding, scubadiving or something else that I've never done before.

  On the other hand, a simple country walk with a favourite lady sounds pretty idyllic at the moment....

  for a number of years could become complacent and except their lot in life.

  They didn't exactly kill my drive (I was actually more driven to see them proven wrong), but it sure put limits on my self-esteem and self-confidence.

  I still have feelings of inadequacy and intense self-doubt- but not about my choice to leave.

  On the other hand; maybe I would have been just the same way even if I hadn't been born a JW? Now there's a scary thought....

  Going Veggie

  when i was jw, i didn't know any vegetarians.

  they had the teaching that god had allowed us to eat animals, so we just eat animals.

  no questions asked.. just recently i started to consider being vegetarian.

  I've been a veggie since the early 90's.

  I watched a programme about the meat processing industry, and simply felt that I didn't want to support or sponsor such practices in the future.

  Don't get me wrong, I've no objection to anyone going out with a rod or gun and bagging their own supper, but it's the wholesale forced-growing and casual abuse of live animals that makes me a little queasy. Maybe too much compassion is a bad thing?

  Yes, I eat dairy products, wear leather shoes and feed my cats on non-specific offal. That's my line that I've drawn, and I'm happy where I am.

  At 6ft and 200lbs, I'm not your archetypal skinny & pale veggie, so it comes as a surprise to some people.

  Just one observation though; whenever it does come out in company, there'll always be at least one knuckle-dragger who feels compelled to point his finger into his own open gob, and say "See them, mate? Canine teeth they are, mate..................."

  This little exercise wasn't so much about my dodgy strumming or wailing vocals, but it was all to do with regaining my self-confidence after several years of the doldrums, so your validations really mean the world to me!

  The guitar? Well, it's an Ovation Matrix that I bought over 25 years ago. Even though it was the very cheapest of the range, it still represented nearly a months wages way back in 1982. I've never used it to it's true potential though!

  This is the key phrase for me, Purps.

  Not just accepting the stuff we're brought up to believe as kids is something that not many people would ever think of doing. Seems to me that the majority of people still follow the tenets they were inculcated with as kids throughout the remainder of their adult lives. It's a form of self-perpetuated blinkering.
